HINSDALE, Ill. -Brad Perry and Tommy Digan combined for 41 points to lead Maine South past Urban Prep Englewood 56-42 in the opening round of the Hinsdale Central Holiday Classic.

After taking a 15-10 lead into the second quarter, Maine South (9-1) opened things up, outscoring Urban Prep 13-4 in the second quarter to build a 28-14 lead at the half. The Hawks shot 57.1 percent (12-of-21) in the opening half compared to Urban Prep’s 30.4 percent (7-of-23).

Maine South extended their lead to 17 points early in the third quarter, before Urban Prep used a 9-0 run over a three-minute span to close to within eight. A layup from Perry and two free throws from Digan gave Maine South a 42-30 lead heading into the fourth quarter.  Urban Prep came no closer than 10 points in the fourth quarter as Maine South pulled away for the 14-point win.

Perry paced the Hawks with a double-double, finishing with game highs in both points (21) and rebounds (1-0). Digan added 20 points while shooting 6-of-10 from the floor and 6-of-6 from the foul line. He added four assists while not committing a turnover.  Jon Arenas added 12 points and five rebounds while Milkos Ljiljak accounted for the Hawks’ final three points.

Maine South shot 47.8 percent (22-of-46) from the floor, including 50.0 percent (4-of-8) from downtown. The Hawks won the battle on the glass 31-27 and outscored Urban Prep 28-18 in the paint.

Jayden Gasby led Urban Prep with 14 points and six rebounds. Fred Cleveland added nine points and Jeramee Simmons chipped in with eight.

Maine South will move on to face DePaul Prep in the quarterfinals on Monday, December 28. The contest is slated for a 7:00 p.m. start. Urban Prep Englewood will face St. Charles East in the consolation bracket on Monday at 12:30 p.m.
