HINSDALE, Ill. - Hinsdale Central earned a spot in the fifth-place match of the Hinsdale Central Holiday Classic with a 46-43 win over DePaul College Prep.

DePaul held a slim 12-10 lead entering the second quarter. Hinsdale Central pulled even in the second quarter and took a late lead on a three-pointer from Jack Hoiberg. A bucket from Tomas Misiunas just before the horn gave the Red Devils a 24-21 lead at the half.

Hinsdale Central (7-5) extended its lead to five points midway through the third quarter, but six straight points, including four from Craig Atkins, put DePaul (5-8) in front at 29-28 with 2:30 left in the third. A bucket by Brad Huth gave the Red Devils a 30-29 lead entering the fourth quarter.

Atkins gave the Rams a quick lead in the fourth quarter with a jumper, but Chris Eck drained a three-pointer to put Hinsdale Central in front for good. The Red Devils scored the next five points to pad their lead up to seven points with four minutes remaining. DePaul chipped the lead down to five, but the Red Devils scored four straight on free throws to take a nine point lead, before hanging on for the 46-43 win.

Eck paced the Red Devils in the win with 14 points, including a 7-of-9 performance from the foul line. Drew Shepherd added eight points while Peter Blues totaled six points and a game-high seven rebounds. Misiunas added six points and three assists for Hinsdale.

Atkins powered DePaul, scoring over half of the team’s points. Atkins shot 9-of-18 from the floor to tally a game-high 22 points while also adding six rebounds and four steals, both team-highs.  Fred Nunez, Perry Cowan and Matthew Tonkel all finished with five points apiece for the Rams.

With the win, Hinsdale Central will face Rockford Auburn in tomorrow’s fifth-place contest at 5:15 p.m. DePaul will take on Richards tomorrow at 2:00 p.m.
