HINSDALE, Ill. – Homewood-Flossmoor led by as many as 16 points before holding off a late charge from Rockford Auburn to score a 61-45 win in the quarterfinals of the Hinsdale Central Holiday Classic.

The win advanced to the Vikings to the semifinals of the tournament and was also the 1,000th victory in the program’s history.

With the game tied at 2-2 in the opening minute of the contest, Homewood-Flossmoor scored the next 16 points to grab an 18-2 lead. A three-pointer by Rockford Auburn’s Terry Ford at the buzzer made the score 18-5 after one quarter. Rockford sliced into the Viking’s lead in the second quarter, outscoring Homewood-Flossmoor 18-11 to pull to within six points (29-23) at the half.

Homewood-Flossmoor started strong in the second half, scoring the first 10 points of the half to extend their lead back to 16. The Knights scored the final four points of the quarter to pull to within 12 points after three quarters of action.

Rockford-Auburn slowly chipped away at the Vikings’ lead in the fourth, pulling to within six points at 51-45, but Homewood-Flossmoor scored the next seven points to push the lead back to double digits and put the game out of reach.

Homewood-Flossmoor finished the contest shooting 57.8 percent (26-of-45) from the field. The Vikings controlled the game in the paint, outscoring Rockford Auburn 46-26 in the lane. Eight different Vikings put points on the scoreboard, but Kendric Pryor led the way, scoring a game-high 19 points while pulling down a team-leading eight rebounds. Trelan Morrow added 13 points while Marlon Smith totaled eight points and seven boards.

Rockford Auburn shot just 32.0 percent (16-of-50) and struggled from three-point range, hitting just 3-of-20 attempts (15.0 percent). Trayvon Tyler led the way for the Knights with 14 points while Juwane Parchman added 12 points and nine rebounds. Devon Richardson added 10 points and six boards in the loss.

Homewood-Flossmoor will face Stevenson in tomorrow’s (December 29) semifinal at 7:30 p.m. Rockford Auburn will face Richardson in a consolation contest at 3:45 p.m.
