HINSDALE, Ill. – Panayiotis Sotos scored a game-high 21 points to lead Maine South past Hinsdale Central in the opening round of the 2025 Hinsdale Central Holiday Classic.

Maine South (5-5) led for over 30 minutes of action, building a quick 9-0 lead and never looking back. The Hawks built a 17-point lead late in the fourth quarter, before holding off a late rally from Hinsdale Central (4-6).

Maine South shot 50.0 percent (22-of-44) from the floor and outrebounded the Red Devils 31-23 in the contest. Sotos led all scores with a game-high 21 points while adding seven rebounds, six assists and three steals. Sasha Matushevskiy added nine points while Nick Hachigian and Sean Ryan scored eight apiece for the Hawks.

Kristopher Dowell led Hinsdale Central in the loss with 15 points and six rebounds. RJ Lewis added 14 points and Cole Bero scored 12.

Maine South will face Brother Rice in tomorrow’s quarterfinal game at 7:00 p.m. Hinsdale Central will take on Lane Tech tomorrow in the consolation round at 12:30 p.m.
