HINSDALE, Ill. – Niles North used a strong opening quarter to come away with an 85-76 win over Maine South in a consolation game of the 2023 Hinsdale Central Holiday Classic.

Niles North (12-3) outscored Maine South 22-7 in the opening quarter and led by as many as 23 points in the opening half before carrying a 43-25 lead into halftime. Maine South (8-8) cut the deficit down to six points with a little more than a minute remaining in the contest, but came no closer as the Vikings came away with the nine-point victory.

Yaris Irby came off the bench to power Niles North’s offense, finishing with 25 points and six rebounds. Irby shot 6-of-11 from the filed and 11-of-15 from the foul line. Hunter Gawron added 23 points and 11 rebounds while Dylan Lam tallied 18 points. Reid Olson finished with 15 points, six rebounds and four assists. The Vikings shot 52.0 percent (26-of-50) from the floor in the victory.

Tyler Sierra carried Maine South’s offense, finishing with a game-high 29 points. Sierra shot 12-of-18 from the field, including 4-of-7 from three-point distance. Panayiotis Sotos finished with 19 points while Matthew Yadger scored 16 for the Hawks.
