HINSDALE, Ill. – Niles North’s trio of Kaidan Chatham, Dylan Lam and Hunter Gawron combined to score 61 of the Vikings’ 67 points in a convincing 67-45 win over Morgan Park in the opening round of the 2023 Hinsdale Central Holiday Classic.

After an even 16-16 first quarter, Niles North (11-1) exploded in the second, outscoring Morgan Park (5-6) 19-5 to carry a 35-21 lead into halftime. The Vikings continued to pull away in the second half, outscoring the Mustangs 22-14 in the third quarter. Niles North led by as many as 30 and led for nearly 27 minutes of action before cruising to the 22-point victory.

Chatham led Niles North with a double-double of 22 points and 10 rebounds. Lam finished with 20 points while shooting 7-of-11 from the floor. Gawron added 19 points and seven rebounds for the Vikings. Niles North shot 48.3 percent (28-of-58) from the floor and outscored Morgan Mark 46-24 in the paint. The Vikings also turned 20 Morgan Park turnovers into 21 points.

Josh Kelly paced Morgan Park in the loss, finishing with 14 points and seven rebounds. Jacquel Lewis and Kelly Taylor added seven points apiece in the loss.

With the win, Niles North advanced to tomorrow’s first quarterfinal where they’ll face Marian Catholic at 3:45 p.m.  Morgan Park will face St. Charles East in a consolation bracket game at 9:30 a.m.
