HINSDALE, Ill. –  Jaylon McElroy recorded 18 points and seven rebounds to pace DePaul Prep in a 51-33 win over Hinsdale Central in the quarterfinals of the 2023 Hinsdale Central Holiday Classic.

DePaul Prep (13-0) punched its ticket to the semifinals with the victory after leading the contest for over 27:30 of play. The Rams held a slim 11-10 lead after the first quarter, but DePaul doubled up Hinsdale Central (6-7) 16-8 in the second quarter to lead 27-18 at the half. The Red Devils came no closer than a 10-point deficit in the second half as DePaul pulled away for the 18-point win.

DePaul shot 46.5 percent (20-of-43) from the floor and outscored Hinsdale Central 32-12 in the paint. McElroy led the way with 18 points while shooting 7-of-12 from the floor. He added a team-best seven rebounds in the victory. PJ Chambers added 12 points while Makai Kvamme scored eight for the Rams.

Hinsdale Central shot 36.7 percent (11-of-30) from the floor, including 4-of-12 from three-point distance. Daniel Orozco led the Red Devils with 13 points while Vincas Buzelis scored nine.

DePaul Prep will await the winner of Maine South/Oswego east in tomorrow’s second semifinal at 8:30 p.m. Hinsdale Central will face the loser of the Maine South/Oswego East game in tomorrow’s fifth-place semifinal at 5:15 p.m.
