HINSDALE, Ill. – A big fourth quarter spurred Lincoln-Way Central past Schaumburg 51-45 in the consolation bracket of the 2023 Hinsdale Central Holiday Classic on Thursday.

The Knights (4-8 record) had just come off a rough third quarter where they only shot 11 percent from the field while being outscored 17-6 in the period. But LWC flipped the script in the final quarter by shooting 55 percent on field goals and 9 of 10 from the free throw line. Schaumburg (9-6 record) managed only four points in a seven-minute span while the Knights put up 17 points of their own. Back-to-back threes by Lucas Andresen and two free throws by Korey Cagnolatti at 40-38 gave the Knights the lead for good.

The two teams shot 39 percent from the field in the first half, with the Saxons controlling the boards by a 17-10 margin. Schaumburg's Zion Young racked up four blocks in the half while patroling the paint. But it was Lincoln-Way Central who went into the halftime break up 24-19.

The final stats saw Andresen put up 14 points, five rebounds and three steals. LWC only shot 38 percent from the field but 45 percent from long distance (5-11). Korey Cagnolatti came off the bench to contribute 10 points and five steals. Kevin Barrett had eight points and six assists.
