2019 GAME SEVEN RECAP: WESTINGHOUSE 78, HINSDALE CENTRAL 73

HINSDALE, Ill. – Devin Davis scored a game-high 33 points while leading Westinghouse to a 78-73 win over Hinsdale Central in the opening round of the 2019 Hinsdale Central Holiday Classic.

Westinghouse (5-6) never trailed in the contest. The Warriors built a 19-14 lead after one quarter and extended their cushion to eight points at 38-30 at halftime. The Warriors led by as many as 11 points in the third quarter and carried a 50-43 lead into the fourth.

Westinghouse led by 12 with 2:16 remaining, but Hinsdale Central (3-5) refused to go away. The Red Devils used a barrage of three-pointers to close to within three points with 13 seconds remaining. Westinghouse hit a pair of free throws with eight seconds left to close out the contest.

Westinghouse shot 43.5 percent (20-of-46) form the floor, including 42.9 percent (9-of-21) from three-point range. The Warriors went to the free throw line 34 times, hitting 29 (85.3 percent). Hinsdale Central shot 53.2 percent (25-of-47) from the field and 65.0 percent (13-of-20) from beyond the arc. The Red Devils outrebounded the Warriors 29-20 but Westinghouse scored 21 points off 15 Hinsdale Central turnovers.

Davis led the way for the Warriors, pumping in 33 points while shooting 9-of-12 from the floor, 7-of-9 from downtown and 8-of-8 from the free throw line. Kier Jordan added 13 points while Dwayne Walton scored 12 for the Warriors.

Hinsdale Central’s Ryan Isaacson nearly matched Davis’ production. Isaacson finished with a team-leading 30 points, hitting 8-of-12 from the field, 6-of-7 from downtown and 8-of-8 from the foul line. Mac Quast and Connor Nelson added 10 points apiece for the Red Devils.

Westinghouse will take on the winner of the DePaul/Richards contest in Thursday’s quarterfinal at 8:30 p.m. Hinsdale Central will face the loser of the DePaul/Richards contest in Thursday’s consolation game at 2:00 p.m.
