2019 GAME FOUR RECAP: STEVENSON 51, GLENBROOK NORTH 31

HINSDALE, Ill. – Stevenson outscored Glenbrook North 12-0 in the second quarter en route to a 51-31 win over Glenbrook North in the first round of the 2019 Hinsdale Central Holiday Classic.

Glenbrook North (4-8) jumped out to to an early lead, using a 13-2 run in the opening quarter to carry a 16-10 lead into the second quarter. Stevenson (10-1) turned the tables in the second, outscoring Glenbrook North 12-0 to take a 22-16 lead at the half. The Patriots continued to pull away in the second half, building a 14-point cushion midway through the third quarter before pulling away for the 20-point victory.

Stevenson shot 42.0 percent (21-of-50) from the floor, including 27.8 percent (5-of-18) from downtown. The Patriots controlled the game inside, outscoring the Spartans 30-4 in the pain and winning the rebounding battle 38-26.

Matthew Kaznikov paced Stevenson with 16 points, shooting 7-of-11 from the floor while collecting five rebounds. John Ittounas added 11 points while Matthew Ambrose scored nine points and grabbed seven rebounds.

Glenbrook North struggled with its shooting, hitting only 10-of-38 shots (26.3 percent). Ben Foster led the Spartans in the loss, finishing with 16 points and five rebounds.

Stevenson will take on Oswego East in Thursday’s second quarterfinal at 5:15 p.m. Glenbrook North will face Rockford Auburn in Thursday’s consolation game at 11:00 a.m.
