2019 GAME THREE RECAP: OSWEGO EAST 56, ROCKFORD AUBURN 36

HINSDALE, Ill. – Oswego East overpowered Rockford Auburn over the final three quarters to score a 56-36 win in the opening round of the 2019 Hinsdale Central Holiday Classic.

Rockford Auburn (6-5) led for nearly the entire first quarter and carried an 8-6 lead into the second, but Oswego East (8-3) took over in the second. Trailing by four early, the Wolfpack ripped off a 9-0 run to open up a 15-10 lead. Oswego East would not trail for the duration of the contest. The Wolfpack led 23-18 at the half. Oswego East started the third quarter on a 14-2 run to open up a 17-point cushion. The Wolfpack led by 11 after 24 minutes. Rockford Auburn scored the first points of the fourth quarter to cut the deficit down to nine, but Oswego East outscored the Knights 15-4 for the rest of the contest to pull away for the 20-point win.

Oswego East shot 52.2 percent (24-of-46) from the floor and dominated the game inside, outscoring Rockford Auburn 40-26 in the pain and outrebounding the Knights 36-21. Sam Schultz led a balanced scoring attack, finishing with 15 points and five rebounds while shooting 7-of-9 from the floor. William Wolfe finished one point shy of a double-double, totaling nine points and 10 rebounds. Tremont Brewer and AJ Johnson scored seven points apiece for the Wolfpack.

Rockford Auburn shot 31.8 percent (14-of-44) from the field and struggled from the outside, hitting just 1-of-15 attempts (6.7 percent) from beyond the arc.

Oswego East will take on the winner of the Stevenson/Glenbrook North contest in Thursday’s second quarterfinal at 5:15 p.m. Rockford Auburn will face the loser of the Stevenson/Glenbrook North game in Thursday’s consolation round at 11:00 a.m.
