2019 GAME 31: MARIAN CATHOLIC 53, STEVENSON 48 (Third-Place)

HINSDALE, Ill. – Ahron Ulis scored 18 points as Marian Catholic rallied past Stevenson in the fourth quarter to score a 53-48 win and capture the third-place trophy at the 2019 Hinsdale Central Holiday Classic.

Marian Catholic (11-3) jumped out to a quick 15-10 lead after one quarter, but Stevenson (11-3) bounced back in the second. Trailing by seven, the Patriots rattled off a 10-0 run to move in front at 20-17. Stevenson built a 27-22 lead at the half and led by as many as eight points in the third, before Marian Catholic close the quarter with a 7-3 run to pull to within three points (39-36) after three quarters.

Stevenson pushed its lead back to five to start the fourth, but Marian Catholic answered back with a 14-1 run over the next six minutes to open up a 50-42 lead. Ulis helped spark the run by scoring seven points for the Spartans. Stevenson came no closer than five points as Marian held on for the third-place trophy.

The Spartans shot 55.6 percent (20-of-36) from the floor, including 33.3 percent (4-of-12) from downtown. Ulis led the way with 18 points, shooting 5-of-7 from the floor and 6-of-6 from the free throw line. Joe Green added 12 points and four steals while Elijah Jones scored 11.

Stevenson shot 42.6 percent (20-of-47) from the floor and held a 27-17 edge in rebounding. The Patriots converted 13 offensive rebounds into 19 second-chance points. Robert Holmes led the Patriots with a double-double of 11 points and 13 rebounds. John Ittounas added 11 points while Matthew Ambrose scored 10 for the Patriots.
