2019 GAME TWO RECAP: ST. CHARLES EAST 64, LINCOLN-WAY CENTRAL 43

HINSDALE, Ill. – St. Charles East led from wire-to-wire in a 64-43 win over Lincoln-Way Central in the opening round of the 2019 Hinsdale Central Holiday Classic.

The Saints scored the first five points of the game and never looked back. Lincoln-Way Central (6-3) pulled even at 5-5, but St. Charles East (6-3) answered back with a 16-0 run over the next four minutes to open up a commanding 21-5 lead. Lincoln-Way Central battled back in the second quarter, closing to within four points (28-24) at halftime.

Lincoln-Way Central pulled even at 32-all midway through the third quarter, but St. Charles East closed the quarter on an 11-2 run to open up a 43-34 lead after three quarters. The Saints pulled away in the fourth quarter, outscoring Lincoln-Way Central 21-9 en route to the 64-43 victory.

St. Charles East shot 51.1 percent (23-of-45) from the floor including 43.8 percent (7-of-16) from downtown. The Saints outrebounded Lincoln-Way Central 29-21 and outscored them 26-16 in the paint.

Ten different Saints put points on the scoreboard in the win. Chase Monkemeyer led the way with 13 points while Zack Clodi scored 12. Thomas Ditsworth and Sean Sullivan scored eight points apiece.

Lincoln-Way Central shot 37.8 percent (14-of-37) from the floor but struggled from downtown, hitting just 3-of-21 attempts (14.3 percent). Matt Maloney led the Knights with 17 points while Ryan Kraft scored 11.

St. Charles East will face Homewood-Flossmoor in Thursday’s first quarterfinal at 3:45 p.m. Lincoln-Way Central will take on Maine South in Thursday’s consolation bracket at 9:30 a.m.
