2019 GAME 19: MAINE SOUTH 47, ROCKFORD AUBURN 39

HINSDALE, Ill. – Maine South secured a spot in the consolation championship of the 2019 Hinsdale Central Holiday Classic  by scoring a 47-39 win over Rockford Auburn.

Maine South (6-5) jumped out to an early 18-6 lead after one quarter. Rockford Auburn (7-6) closed to within eight points at the half (31-23) after outscoring Maine South 17-13 in the second quarter. Rockford Auburn closed to within six points after three quarters, but came no closer as Maine South came away with the eight-point victory.

The Hawks shot 41.9 percent (13-of-31) from the floor and controlled the rebounding battle, pulling down 31 boards to Rockford Auburn’s 15. Sean Gallery led the way for Maine South with 16 points while Casey Clark scored nine.

Rockford Auburn shot 40.5 percent (15-of-37) from the field, but just 26.1 percent (6-of-23) from beyond the arc. Haniefe Johnson led the Knights in the loss with 17 points while Javin Davis scored 11 and totaled five steals.

Maine South will play for the consolation bracket championship against the winner of Richards/T.F. South tomorrow at 3:45 p.m. Rockford Auburn will face the loser of the Richards/T.F. South tomorrow at 12:30 p.m.
