2019 GAME 14 RECAP: STEVENSON 51, OSWEGO EAST 42

HINSDALE, Ill. – Stevenson punched its ticket to the semifinals of the 2019 Hinsdale Central Holiday Classic by toppling Oswego East 51-42.

Stevenson (11-1) used a second-half surge to tip Oswego East (8-4) and advance to the semifinals. Oswego East built a quick 6-0 lead and lead 10-9 after one quarter. The Stevenson countered back, starting the second quarter on a 7-0 run to move in front by six (16-10). Oswego East finished the half on an 8-2 run to pull even at 18-18 at the half.

Stevenson moved in front by two late in the third quarter and the Patriots scored the final six points of the third to carry a 35-27 lead into the final quarter. Stevenson scored the first four points of the fourth to run its lead up 12 points. Oswego East came no closer than eight points the rest of the way as the Patriots moved into the semifinals.

Stevenson finished the game shooting 52.8 percent (19-of-36) from the floor. The Patriots took advantage of 11 Oswego East turnovers to score 18 points. Stevenson also outscored Oswego East 30-20 in the paint despite the Wolfpack holding a 28-18 edge in rebounds.

Robert Holmes led the Patriots in the win with 14 points, shooting 6-of-7 from the floor. Matthew Kaznikov added 11 points while Matthew Ambrose scored nine.

Oswego East finished the contest shooting 41.0 percent (16-of-39) from the floor, including 35.7 percent (5-of-14) from downtown. Jalen Tucker, William Wolfe and Odin Lium totaled eight points apiece for the Wolfpack.

Stevenson will take on Homewood-Flossmoor in tomorrow’s first semifinal at 7:00 p.m. Oswego East will face St. Charles East in the fifth-place bracket tomorrow at 3:45 p.m.
