2018 GAME SIX RECAP: Oswego East 89, Westinghouse 71

HINSDALE, Ill. – RayJ Dennis and Kamron Battle combined to score 52 points while leading Oswego East past Westinghouse 89-71 in the opening round of the 2018 Hinsdale Central Holiday Classic.

After a tight opening 11 minutes, Oswego East (9-1) took control. After a 16-16 tie after one quarter, the game remained even at 23-23 early in the second. Trailing by a point at 24-23, Oswego East rattled off the next eight points to open up a 31-24 lead. Leading by six with 2:30 remaining, the Wolves scored the final five points of the quarter to lead 37-26 at halftime.

Westinghouse (8-5) cut the deficit down to eight points early in the third, but Oswego East used a 13-2 run over the next three minutes to blow the game open and take a commanding 19-point lead. The Wolves led by as many as 27 points in the fourth quarter before coasting to the 18-point victory.

Dennis led Oswego East in the win with a game-high 31 points, shooting 10-of-15 from the floor while collecting seven rebounds and five steals. Battle and Sam Schultz added double-doubles in the win. Battle totaled 21 points, 10 rebounds, four assist, three blocks and two steals while Schultz tallied 12 points and 10 rebounds. Demari Grant added 10 points and four assists. Oswego East shot 46.3 percent (31-of-67) from the floor in the win while outscoring Westinghouse 25-6 on the fast break.

Westinghouse shot 35.0 percent (28-of-80) from the field, including 28.6 percent (8-of-28) from three-point distance. Devin Davis led Westinghouse with 30 points and eight rebounds. Mark Carter added 13 points while Cinque Simmons scored seven.

Oswego East will matchup against Saint Rita in tomorrow’s 7:00 p.m. quarterfinal contest. Westinghouse will face Rockford Auburn in tomorrow’s 12:30 p.m. consolation game.
