2018 GAME 32 RECAP: Marian Catholic 52, Homewood-Flossmoor 45 (Championship)

HINSDALE, Ill. – Marian Catholic used a strong second and third quarter to score a 52-45 win over Homewood-Flossmoor and take home the championship trophy of the 2018 Hinsdale Central Holiday Classic.

Homewood-Flossmoor (8-4) jumped out to a 6-5 lead in a low-scoring first quarter. Marian Catholic (13-1) outscored the Vikings 11-8 in the second to lead 16-14 at halftime.

Homewood-Flossmoor pulled even at 18-18 early in the third, but Marian Catholic used an 11-0 run over the next five minutes to blow the game open and take a 29-18 lead. Homewood-Flossmoor came no closer than six points for the duration of the contest as Marian Catholic came away with the seven point win.

Marian Catholic shot 32.1 percent (17-of-53) from the floor and 76.2 percent (16-of-21) from the foul line. The Spartans won the rebounding battle 49-36 and also blocked 11 shots. Ahron Ulis was named tournament MVP after leading the Spartans with 17 points. Christopher White also earned all-tourney honors after totaling 14 rebounds, five blocks and four points. Joe Green added 13 points and nine boards while Yemi Eitulo came off the bench to score 10.

Homewood-Flossmoor shot just 27.6 percent (16-of-58) from the field while also blocking 13 shots. All-tournament pick RJ Ogom led the Vikings with 22 points, nine rebounds and six blocks. All-Tourney selection Isaac Stanback added seven points, seven rebounds and six blocks for the Vikings.
