2018 GAME 30 RECAP: Saint Rita 49, St. Charles East 36 (Fifth-Place)

HINSDALE, Ill. – Saint Rita used a 10-0 run in the fourth quarter to pull away from St. Charles East and score a 49-36 win in the fifth-place game of the 2018 Hinsdale Central Holiday Classic.

The low scoring game was even early with Saint Rita (10-4) leading 11-9 after the first quarter and 22-16 at the half. St. Charles East (9-7) responded in the second half using a 9-0 run to take a 28-25 lead after a Nate Ortiz three-pointer. Saint Rita answered back and grabbed a 34-32 lead after three quarters.

St. Charles East tied the score early in the fourth, but Saint Rita rattled off a 10-0 run over the next four minutes to open up a 10-point lead at 44-34. Saint Charles East came no closer than nine points as Saint Rita pulled away for the 13-point win.

Saint Rita finished the game shooting 47.7 percent (21-of-44) from the floor. Three players reached double figures in scoring with Joel Watts leading the way with 13 points and five rebounds. Doug Posley and Javon Cooley totaled 10 points apiece for the Mustangs.

St. Charles East was led by 10 points and five assists from Luke Matheny. Ortiz finished with eight points while Chase Monkemeyer totaled seven points and five rebounds. The Saints shot 31.8 percent (14-of-44) from the floor, but struggled from long-range, hitting just 4-of-20 attempts from three-point range.
