2018 GAME TWO RECAP: Marian Catholic 67, Glenbrook North 47

HINSDALE, Ill. – Ahron Ulis scored a team-leading 20 points to lead Marian Catholic to a 67-47 win over Glenbrook North in the second game of the 2018 Hinsdale Central Holiday Classic.

Marian Catholic (9-1) raced out to an 11-4 lead before Glenbrook North (7-6) responded with an 8-0 run to take its only lead of the game at 12-11. Marian Catholic close the quarter with a 7-2 run to take an 18-14 lead after the first quarter. Marian Catholic pulled away late in the second quarter, leading by as many as 11 points and carrying a 35-26 lead into the locker room at halftime.

Marian Catholic pulled away in the second half, leading by as many as 22 points before coasting to the 20-point victory.

Marian Catholic shot 63.9 percent (23-of-36) from the floor, including 75.0 percent (3-of-4) from three-point range. The Spartans hit 18-of-22 attempts from the foul line (81.8 percent). Marian Catholic finished with a 14-0 edge on the fast break while outrebounding Glenbrook North 26-15. Ulis paced Marian Catholic with 20 points, shooting of 6-of-9 from the floor and 8-of-8 from the free throw line. He added five assists in the win. Joe Green chipped in with 15 points and eight rebounds while Elijah Jones added 10 points and Christopher White score eight.

Glenbrook North shot 43.6 percent (17-of-39) from the field, but struggled from downtown hitting just 4-of-16 (25.0 percent). Brian Johnson led the Spartans with 23 points, shooting 8-of-12 from the field. Frank Siegien added 13 points and six rebounds in the loss.

Marian Catholic will take on Willowbrook in tomorrow’s quarterfinal at 3:45 p.m. Glenbrook North takes on Richards in the consolation round at 9:30 a.m.
