2018 GAME 20 RECAP: Hinsdale Central 52, Rockford Auburn 49

HINSDALE, Ill. –Hinsdale Central led by as many as 15 points and held off a second half rally from Rockford Auburn to score a 52-49 win and a spot in the consolation championship in the 2018 Hinsdale Central Holiday Classic.

Hinsdale Central (4-7) jumped out to a fast start, opening with an 11-4 run to take a quick seven-point lead. The Red Devils led 20-12 after the first quarter and opened up a 15-point cushion in the second before bringing a 35-22 lead into the locker room at halftime.

Rockford Auburn (7-8) rallied back in the second half. The Knights started with a 15-4 run to pull to within two late in the third quarter. The Red Devils’ lead was down to four after three quarters. Rockford Auburn surged in front early in the fourth, but Hinsdale Central went back in front for good on a Danell Nicholson layup. The Red Devils hit all four free throws down the stretch to come away with the three-point win.

Hinsdale Central shot 42.6 percent (9-of-16) from the floor in the win. Mac Quast led the Red Devils with 11 points while Matthew Rush chipped in with nine points and five boards. Nicholson and Sam Hoiberg scored nine points apiece for Hinsdale Central.

Rockford Auburn shot 44.2 percent (19-of-43) from the floor, but the Knights turned the ball over 17 times, resulting in 19 points for Hinsdale Central. Javin Davis and Justin Blake scored 10 points apiece for the Knights. Joshua Ausler added nine points, six boards and four assists.

Hinsdale Central will face Stevenson in tomorrow’s consolation semifinal at 3:45 p.m. Rockford Auburn will take on Richards tomorrow at 12:30 p.m.
