2018 GAME 18 RECAP: Maine South 63, Westinghouse 55

HINSDALE, Ill. – Essam Hamwi totaled a double-double of 26 points and 13 rebounds while leading Maine South to a 63-55 win over Westinghouse at the 2018 Hinsdale Central Holiday Classic.

Maine South (9-5) fell behind early, trailing 12-5 in the first quarter and 14-8 after the game’s first eight minutes. Westinghouse (8-7) led by five early in the second quarter before Maine South rallied back. The Hawks closed the half on a 14-3 run to open up a 24-18 lead at the half.

Westinghouse closed to within a point late in the third, but six straight points from Maine South reestablished a seven-point lead for the Hawks. Westinghouse came no closer than three points for the duration of the contest as Maine South opened up an 11-point four quarter lead before holding on for the 63-55 win.

Three players reached double figures in scoring for Maine South. Hawmi led the Hawks with a double-double of 26 points and a game-high 13 rebounds. Hawmi connected on 5-of-8 attempts from beyond the arc. Fillip Bulatovic added 18 points and eight rebounds while Dan Crane scored 11. The Hawks shot 51.2 percent (21-of-41) as a team, including 45.5 percent (5-of-11) from downtown and 80.0 percent (16-of-20) from three-point distance. The Hawks also controlled the inside game, outrebounding Westinghouse 42-27 and outscoring the Warriors 32-16 in the paint.

Westinghouse shot just 26.8 percent (15-of-56) from the floor, but the Warriors turned 19 Maine South turnovers into 21 points. Devin Davis poured in a game-high 31 points while adding nine rebounds and five steals in the loss.

Maine South will face Glenbrook North tomorrow at 11:00 a.m. while Westinghouse takes on Urban Prep Englewood tomorrow at 9:30 a.m.
