2018 GAME 15RECAP: Oswego East 66, Saint Rita 55

HINSDALE, Ill. – Oswego East rallied from a 12-point first half deficit to topple Saint Rita 66-55 and secure a spot in the semifinals of the 2018 Hinsdale Central Holiday Classic.

Saint Rita (8-4) built a quick lead, racing out to a 19-13 lead after the first quarter. The Mustangs doubled their lead early in the second quarter, opening up a 28-16 lead with six minutes left in the half. Oswego East (10-1) surged back, using a 17-7 run over the next four minutes to pull to within two. The Wolves managed to pull even at 39-39 at the half.

Oswego East opened the third quarter by scoring the first 10 points and taking a 49-39 lead. Saint Rita used a three-pointer from Alec Millender to cut the lead down to seven, but Oswego East ran out the last four minutes of the quarter. The Wolves scored the first five points of the fourth quarter to extend their lead back to 12. Saint Rita came no closer than eight points for the duration of the contest as Oswego East secured the 11-point win.

Oswego Est hit 52.3 percent (23-of-44) of its shots, including 50.0 percent (7-of-14) from beyond the arc. The Wolves dominated on the glass, outrebounding Saint Rita 32-18. RayJ Dennis paced Oswego East with a game-high 26 points while also collecting a team-best eight rebounds. Demari Grant added 10 points, six rebounds and seven assists while Kamron Battle scored 11 points. Sam Schultz finished with nine points and six rebounds.

Saint Rita finished the contest shooting 47.9 percent (23-of-48) from the field, including 40.0 percent (8-of-20) from beyond the arc. Joel Watts came off the bench to lead the Mustangs in scoring, finishing with 10. Millender chipped in with nine points and five assists while Doug Posley scored eight.

Oswego East will face the winner of the Lincoln Park/Homewood-Flossmoor game in tomorrow’s 8:30 p.m. semifinal. Saint Rita will take on the loser of the Lincoln Park/Homewood-Flossmoor game tomorrow at 5:15 p.m.
