2018 GAME 11 RECAP: Rockford Auburn 68, Westinghouse 65

HINSDALE, Ill. – Javin Davis hit a game-winning three-pointer at the buzzer to propel Rockford Auburn over Westinghouse 68-65 and into the consolation round semifinals of the 2018 Hinsdale Central Holiday Classic.

The back-and-forth contest featured nine ties and 12 lead changes with neither team leading by more than six points. Rockford Auburn (7-7) built a five-point cushion with just over a minute left after a Markus Burd layup and a Elliott Gary free throw, but Westinghouse (8-6) rallied back in the closing seconds.

A three-point play from Tyrinn Kid cut the deficit in half with 34 seconds left to play. After a free throw from Rockford Auburn, Devin Davis drilled a three-pointer to bring the Warriors to within a point with 26 seconds left. A layup from Gary put Rockford Auburn back up by three, but Davis drilled another trey with less than 10 seconds left to tie the game at 65-all. Davis caught a pass across the midcourt line and pulled up from 30-feet and banked home the game-winning three-pointer as the buzzer sounded.

Rockford Auburn shot 47.4 percent (25-of-57) from the floor in the win, including 35.5 percent (11-of-31) from downtown. Burd led the way for the Knights with 24 points while Davis finished with 11 and Gary scored eight.

Westinghouse finished the game hitting 46.8 percent (22-of-47) from the floor, including 45.5 percent (5-of-11) from downtown. Kidd paced Westinghouse with 25 points and nine rebounds while Davis chipped in with 11 points.

Rockford Auburn will face the winner of the Hinsdale Central/Maine South game in tomorrow’s 2:00 p.m. consolation quarterfinal. Westinghouse will face the loser off the Hinsdale Central/Maine South game tomorrow at 11:00 a.m.
