2017 GAME NINE RECAP: Homewood-Flossmoor 55, Crete-Monee 52

HINSDALE, Ill. – Homewood-Flossmoor advanced in the consolation bracket of the Hinsdale Central Holiday Classic with a 55-52 win over Crete-Monee.

Homewood-Flossmoor (7-3) built a 23-19 lead at halftime before opening up a double-digit second half lead and then holding off a late rally from Crete-Monee (7-6).

Leading by just two points midway through the third quarter, the Vikings used an 8-0 run to open up a 35-25 cushion with 1:11 left in the quarter. H-F carried a 36-29 lead into the fourth quarter. The Vikings pushed their lead up to 11 points with 5:30 remaining, but eight straight points over 90 seconds brought Crete-Monee to within three points (43-40) with four minutes left to play. The Warriors cut the deficit down to two points with 2:35 left, but Homewood-Flossmoor hit 10-of-12 free throws down the stretch to come away with the three-point win.

Sean Jones led H-F and all scorers with a game-high 22 points, shooting 7-of-14 from the floor and 7-of-8 from the foul line.  Isaac Stanback added 11 points and eight rebounds while Maurion Scott chipped in with nine points and eight boards. The Vikings shot 36.4 percent (16-of-44) from the field, but were 75.9 percent (22-of-29) from the free throw line.

Malik Hardmon paced Crete-Monee in the loss with 17 points, shooting 11-of-12 from the foul line. Joshua Evans (12 points) and Tyrese Hunt (11 points) also reached double figures in scoring for the Warriors. Crete-Monee shot 32.1 percent (17-of-53) from the floor, including 40 percent (6-of-15) from downtown.

Crete-Monee will face the loser of the Westinghouse/Richards game tomorrow at 9:30 a.m. while Homewood-Flossmoor will await the winner of the Westinghouse/Richards game tomorrow in the consolation bracket at 12:30 p.m.
