2017 GAME 30 RECAP: Maine South 80, St. Charles East 67 (Fifth-place)

HINSDALE, Ill. – Maine South outscore St. Charles East 33-11 in the third quarter en route to an 80-67 victory and the fifth-place trophy at the 2017 Hinsdale Central Holiday Classic.

The first half was even with the score tied at 15-all after the first quarter and 23-all at the half. Maine South (10-3) started the third quarter with a 9-2 run to open up a seven-point cushion. Leading by seven with just over three minutes left, the Hawks closed the quarter on a 15-0 run aided by nine free throws after foul trouble from St. Charles East.

St. Charles East (9-5) fell behind by 25 points early in the fourth quarter before the Saints started to shoot their way back in. Free throws and four three pointers brought the Saints to within 13 points with 4:24 remaining, but the Hawks pushed their lead back to 16 points before hanging on for the 13-point victory.

Maine South shot 48.9 percent from the floor (22-of-45) while outrebounding the Saint 36-28. Essam Hamwi led the Hawks in scoring, finishing with a team-best 27 points while shooting 8-of-18 from the floor. Grant Miller added 18 points and seven rebounds while Fillip Bulatovic totaled a double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds. Tommy Gardiner added 14 points while collecting seven rebounds.

Just Hardy scored a game-high 28 points to lead St. Charles East in the loss. Hardy shot 12-of-19 from the field while pulling down nine rebounds. Zach Robinson pitched in with 18 points and Nate Ortiz scored 14 for the Saints.
