2017 GAME 20 RECAP: Marian Catholic 61, Glenbrook North 54

HINSDALE, Ill. – Marian Catholic outscored Glenbrook North 31-16 in the fourth quarter en route to a 61-54 win over the Spartans and a place in the consolation championship game of the Hinsdale Central Holiday Classic.

Glenbrook North (9-4) built a 23-21 lead at the half and the Spartans started the second half strong, extending their lead to 11 points with 2:39 left. Marian Catholic (9-2) cut the deficit down to eight points after three quarters. Marian Catholic started the fourth quarter with an 11-0 run to take a lead on a Tim Jones’ three-pointer with six minutes remaining.

After Glenbrook North pulled even at 43-all, Marian Catholic used a 9-2 run to grab a seven-point cushion. Glenbrook North cut the lead down to just one on an Evan Barnes three-pointer with two minutes left, but Marian Catholic hit all eight of its free throw attempts down the stretch to pull away for the seven-point win.

Marian Catholic shot 52.5 percent (21-of-40) from the floor, including 80 percent (8-of-10) in the fourth quarter. The Spartans hit 7-of-11 attempts from beyond the arc (63.6 percent) while also outscoring Glenbrook North 26-18 in the paint. Malik Tidwell led the way with 18 points and six rebounds while Ahron Ulis added 15 points and five boards. Jones added 12 for the Spartans.

Four players reached double figures in scoring for Glenbrook North. Kellen Witherell led the charge with 16 points and seven rebounds while Evan Barnes netted 12 points. Max Knebelkamp and Frank Siegien totaled 11 points apiece for the Spartans.

Marian Catholic will face Homewood-Flossmoor in tomorrow’s consolation bracket title game at 3:45 p.m. Glenbrook North will play Westinghouse tomorrow at 12:30 p.m.
