2017 GAME ONE RECAP: DePaul Prep 43, Crete-Monee 30

HINSDALE, Ill. - A strong second quarter propelled DePaul Prep to a 43-30 win over Crete-Monee in the opening game of the 2017 Hinsdale Central Holiday Classic.

Leading by just two points after the first quarter at 6-4, DePaul (10-1) exploded in the second quarter, outscoring Crete-Monee (7-5) 18-3 to build a 24-7 lead at the half.

Crete-Monee trailed by as many as 20 points in the third quarter before slowly chipping the lead down to just eight points after a Joshua Evans three-pointer early in the fourth. DePaul responded with a 9-0 run over the next five minutes to push the lead back to 19 points before holding on for the 13-point victory.

Four players led a balanced attack for DePaul. Pavle Pantovic finished two rebounds shy of a double-double, totaling 11 points and eight rebounds. Lance Moseley and Perry Cowan chipped in with 10 points apiece while Raheem Anthony added nine points. The Rams shot 30.6 percent from the floor (15-of-49) but dominated the game in the paint, outscoring Crete-Monee 24-4 in the lane.

Crete-Monee shot an identical 30.6 percent (11-of-36) from the field in the loss. Evans paced the squad with a game-high 19 points and seven rebounds. Evans knocked down four three-pointers in the loss. Deion Harry added six points and eight rebounds for the Warriors.


Crete-Monee will face the loser of the Stevenson/Homewood-Flossmoor game tomorrow at 9:30 am while DePaul will take on the winner of the Stevenson/Homewood-Flossmoor contest in tomorrow’s quarterfinal at 3:45 p.m.
